Little Lilah

10 x 14
gouache
140lb fabriano

another watercolor re-work. was never happy with the colors of the transparent watercolors on this one. not a fan of pink either so there's just no explaining the painting process!

my little friend

10 x 14
gouache
400 lb arches

This was actually a watercolor gone wrong. i had it sitting around for scrap because this paper is so expensive and i decided to quickly paint gouache over it. i am unsure of all the blue that seems to inevitably show up in my work because it is not one of my favorite colors. anyway, this is actually an 11 x 15 but the edge was taped so it is not painted. i do find gouache easier to work with than watercolors. if you look hard you will see Maggie's little friend!

Sunset on Sam

gouache
9 x 7
arches artboard

this is my first try at gouache and i found it much more forgiving than watercolor! this photo was taken just before one of those lovely delta sunsets that we get most days and the gouache allowed me to capture the way it rests across my horse's face. as i usually do when trying something new, i used a simple photo that i have painted before. i also used an extremely limited palette (i just bought a few colors for trial purposes). gouache is sometimes called opaque watercolor.
