lilah blue

watercolor & gouache
8 1/2 x 11
10 x 16 finished size with border
fabriano

this is lilah and she is the youngest of my small herd. she was black when born and is slowly turning gray and will grow into almost white with darker main, tail and stockings. not sure why but i have always seen her as blue and lilac....hence her name... lilah blue. this painting seems to be a dance between water and color. sometimes there is just no controlling things... I did leave plenty white border so it can be trimmed and fit in a ready-made standard size frame.

sweet sweet izzy

gouache
8.5 x 11
fabriano

this is izzy (another of my adopted critters) being her sweet self in a very serene moment. she looks a little sad and alone but rest assured she has lots of playmates! I first painted this in watercolor as an under-painting then went over those colors in gouache. I do like the way the paint and colors seem to melt together through the layers.

its gonna be a wild ride...

watercolor
on fabriano
15 x 19
this is Sam and he is generally very laid back but on this day he was in a rather wild mood. the wind was blowing and it was a cool crisp day. he was a handful but ended up very pleasant. this watercolor looks brighter online than in person due to the back-lighting of the screen. Anyway, i photographed it until i could get as close as I could to the real colors. thanks for looking at my work. if you wish to purchase just click on the the daily paintworks icon at the right.

these guys have lots to do....

gouache (opaque watercolor)
9 x 13
arches artboard

these guys hang out on about 20 acres with grass, hills, woods, pasture, and best of all a creek. they wander around all day and most times i can't even see them. but when its time to eat they will be up by the house watching and waiting for a door to open or a dog to bark. this means that its time to eat. it is wonderous how they seem to always to know what time it is.

this is gouache (opaque watercolor) which is fairly new to me. when i try something new, i like familiar subjects or a photo that i have previously painted. this allows me to experiment with the new paints and not worry about anything else. smiley face

watercolor
140 lb fabriano
11 x 15

back to watercolors! this lovely creature belongs to a friend of my son's. there is something unexplainable about him that makes it easy for me to paint.  i have recently spent a little time experimenting more with acrylics but i always venture back to watercolors. i do find that the experiments in opaque mediums helps with my watercolors. if you have an interest in purchasing please visit www.dailypaintworks.com... you can simply click on the icon at the right!

again playing with acrylics and trying for interesting colors! the board is 6x9 which leaves plenty framing options as well as a wonderful white border that looks like a mat!

just trying my hand at acrylics. this was for a fun challenge on daily paintworks which was to use a different color with each stroke. the challenge intrigued me and allowed me to go beyond my usual habits.
